Life is short. One thing I desire for my life is to live it while I am alive. As we know, there is a difference between just being alive and truly living life. I heard a song the other day by Bon Jovi called It's My Life. The lyrics to the chorus read:
“It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive”
These lyrics reminded me that our choice of attitude in how we approach life will greatly determine how we live it. For most of us, our deepest desire is to maximize the life we have and live with meaning and purpose.
An adventure does not have to be climbing mountains or diving cross-country. We can actually determine what our own adventures will be. Almost anything can be made into an adventure: starting a small business, writing a book, giving a speech, building something, going on an interview, going on a date, going back to school, learning a new skill, etc.
Often, we can miss out on the daily opportunities to create an adventure because we compare other’s adventures to our own.
:We are the most excited about life and get the most out of it when we are fully engaged in striving to accomplish something meaningful. In other words: an adventure. An adventure is simply defined as participating in an exciting undertaking and/or experience
Here are 5 simple steps to creating your own daring adventure:
Step 1: Pick and Area of Life
First, choose an area of your life to work on first: Love, Work, Play or Health. It is important to pick just one first, instead of all four. If you work on all four at one time you will most likely get overwhelmed.
Step 2: Clarify Values
Values are like a compass; they give us direction and keep us on track. If we pursue goals that are not aligned with our core values, it will almost always lead us to dissatisfaction. Take some time to reflect on what are the values within this area of life that you chose. What type of character do you want to build? What do you want to stand for?
Step 3: Set Goals
Use these values to set yourself some goals. What are some short-term goals you can aim for in the next few days? What are some medium-term goals for the next few weeks and months? What are some long-term goals for the next few months and years?
Step 4: Specify Actions
Choose an important short-term goal. What are the specific steps you need to achieve it? What is the simplest, easiest thing you could do to get started today? It does not matter how small. We create a meaningful life by committed action.
Step 5: Get Moving
You know what you need to do so now is the time get going. What most people let stop them from getting started on a goal is the lack or motivation and/or confidence. The truth is that the actions of confidence come first and the feeling of confidences typically follows. So if you don’t feel confident or motivated don’t worry because feelings come and go. Once you get started and engage in the task; the motivation will come.
